Why is freshly baked bread gets easily crushed when sliced?

How can I prevent this? I’m using a mechanical slicer. I let the bread ‘cool’ for several hours because of this. So some staling occurs to the bread.

The above two answers are right, but I have one suggestion to add.

Maybe the blades on your automatic cutter are not as sharp as they could be? If you grind them, maybe they will cut the bread more quickly and prevent some crushing.

I just make bread for myself from time to time, and a excellent bread knife certainly makes a difference when cutting.

Hope this helps.
