Soulard Mardi Gras started as a private party in 1980 and has since grown into the largest Mardi Gras in the United States further than New Orleans. The festival starts on Epiphany in January (which in 2010 will be January 6th) and continues until Shrove Tuesday (February 16). The estimated impact on Economy St. Louis more than 21 million dollars. Major 2010 events include:

Highlights the Mardi Gras Soulard you do not want to miss are:
- The Toast of Soulard taste wine (January 29) will be two sites. Attend these can sample and buy a variety of local and national wines. There are many foods to sample (each participant will receive 4 tickets for the sampling of food) and several cars that will lead you from one place to another.
- The Crystal Cajun Cook-Off (January 30), holes ten ten chefs amateurs and professionals against each other in their respective categories for best Cajun / Flat Creole. Each participant is again in the four food tickets. There is live music and unlimited samples of beer and soft drinks. - Lumiere Place Grand Parade is one of the largest parades in the Midwest. With over 100 units, and a parade route stretching from Soulard Busch Stadium at a distance 70 blocks from the square. Lumiere Place Grand Parade is one of the largest events of the festival. Hundreds of thousands of spectators turn Parade, and get their accounts of float riders.
Mardi Gras-themed Carnival in other parts of the world is a show not to be lack experience. If you're in the Midwest, just before Lent, Journey to St. Louis for one of the greatest sports meeting ever attend.
