Triad plant opens new foam recycling site
Ancient egg cartons, foam plates and cups now have a more useful future than just the bottom of the landfill. On Thursday, a Triad plant opened one of the state’s first foam recycling centers that changes polystyrene foam into a number of usable items.

What is the Guinness contraption that makes foam magically appear in beer glass?
I went to a bar that had this contraption that looked like a coaster. The bartender pours a small water on it, places down a glass of Guinness and presses a button. Foam forms in the cup. What is this called!?
It is basically a suction cup. The water is to help the seal to the glass. When he pushes the button, he forces out air and when he lets go, a partial vacuum is formed. But the cold beer is full of carbonation so when he reduces the pressure, foam come up from gas coming up out of solution – beer naturally forms a foam because of its composition. If you are really excellent and the glass is the right size and honestly full, you can place your palm on the top of the glass and cup it up while keeping the seal and produce the same effect.
