Can a sensitive dog wear ear protection when groomers use a power dryer?
My Standard Poodle gets traumatized (I reflect I would, too) by the loud & acute noise of the “power dryer” at the groomers.
Do you reflect it would work to place foam ear plugs in her ears after the bath? I once questioned a groomer to not use a power dryer, only a quieter one. I could do that again, but there are at least 8 other dogs being groomed while mine is there.
you can specifically request that they use a ‘box dryer’ on your dog. They place the dog in a holding pen and place a much lower power hair dryer blowing over them. It will take a LOT longer for her to dry though.
Most dogs that react to a force blower are not upset by the noise, but the force of the air all over. It feels like a hard jet of water nearly when it is on high. It is strong enough to place an animals eye out if used incorrectly. I have seen cruel and stupid groomers blow a small dog off a table from the force of these air jets.
The dogs then learn to react to the noise, because it means a physical assault. Larger animals, like mine really like the force blower on low because it feels like a message – but the smaller animals never learn to like it because it is simply too hard and too rough for them.
If your dog is upset by the grooming. I would clarify it to your groomer, and question for a lesson in grooming (paying a generous fee for it). Grooming your own dog is a bonding experience for the animal, you are taking care of them and they trust you…
