Why would I have dust moths in my kitchen cabinet area if I have a clean kitchen and no food out ?
We have bought this home and have a problem with small moths that are like dust moths , they are mostly in and around the cabinets in the kitchen which is very weird because we are clean people who pride ourselves on a clean kitchen area with no dirty dishes and no food left out anyone have any knowledge of this or advice? Thanks
I reflect you have “cold-room moths”. Very common. They were probably there in egg or larva stage when you went in and have progressed to adult stage moths.
Check the inside of the cabinets for signs of moths. Go everything around and remove any moths/larva you can see
check the further than of all the packaged dry goods (noodles, grains, cereals…) for signs of webbing or moths, toss anything infested and take it further than to the trash
place the remaining dry goods inside sealed plastic bags and abide by the bags for a few days. If nothing shows up…it’s probably ok, but check everything before you prepare it for eating.
I opened a package of cookie mix earlier today and found them inside the bag…none flitting around the house
There’s a product called “Cold-room Pest” that you can buy at some grocers and convenience stores. It contains 2 tent like document structures with sticky stuff on the inside and a small sealed packet with a moth attractor. These work really well…but have to be replaced periodically to remove the infestation.
