A Streets Of The Bronx Christmas On A White Christmas Eve

back from school- my manager is killing me with shifts?

I work at a fine dining , very well loved restaurant and I left to go to school and the manager had called me asking if i could pick up shifts and when I would be home.

Well i have been home since tuesday at 3 and have already worked twenty hours as well as shopped and babysat AND helped my family cooked for Christmas.

I recently got over mono, and have been distress from anxiety attacks. and I also needed money to get by.

Well I told my work I would pick up shifts And now they have me booked and scheduled all day saturday, sunday, CHRISTMAS EVE, all day Wednesday, thursday friday and SATURDAY. Then i Go back on the 2nd to go in to my other dorm and initiation schooling for my on campus job. I want to weep.

How do i talk to my manager, and come up with some sort of excuse. I am falling apart. I really dont want to lose my job but really cant do this anymore.

Been there and trust me, hindsight is 20/20. What you and I both know you should have done was discussed how many shifts you’d be willing to pick up before you agreed to it. But.. that doesn’t help you now….

So my advice is just to call your boss, or who ever and say “listen, I know I said I would pick up some shifts but this is too much. I’m on my break from school and I have a lot going on. But I can use the cash and I do want to help out.” Then map out what shifts you wanna keep and tell him/her that if she wants your help on those days that she/he needs to find coverage for the days you don’t want. If they say forget it and fire you well.. delight in your break! Odds are once you are completely outta school and are effective at your career, you’re not going to have the luxury of Christmas Break. So.. don’t sweat this job!
