My MIL gave us a $100 gift card to a restaurant that we cannot use. Any thoughts on how to return it?

The restaurant is for a steak restaurant, but my husband works for a very well loved steak restaurant, and has no desire to go there, and I don’t eat steak. We just bought a house, and a Home Depot card would have been a much better choice, but I’m pretty sure that my MIL’s new husband, received the card as his xmas bonus and they regifted. I want to return it, with a nice note, explaining that it is just not a excellent fit for us, but thank you. Our other option is to try to sell it for less than it is worth. The kicker is she questioned us what we wanted for x-mas and then we receive this! My husband keeps saying he’s wretched, and I keep telling him it’s not his fault, no need to apologize. Any thoughts on what to do with this gift card?
TIA

The MIL has already been tacky by giving you a restaurant gift card that is probably a regift. Delight don’t match her tackiness by sending the gift back.

You could regift yourself, but honestly it’s not a fantastic gift unless you know the recipient really likes said restaurant.

Sell it on Ebay. You could get nearly face value.
